Here's what's happening in third grade
2009 - 2010
December 2009
Look at me trying to get something on my webpage. One of my wonderful third grade students let me know that I needed to get an update!
I unpacked my December box of books. This means fresh-new picture books for us to read. Many students have practiced reading a story to themself or a friend and then signed up to read to the class.
I started off the month with evergreen boughs. We used Mrs. Day's "eye loops" to look closely at the needles. I had 3 types of pines, a hemlock, fir, spruce, and a cedar.
(Oops, I'm being called away)
November 2009
In addition to teaching reading, writing and math, spelling...handwriting...I have also been reading Fairy Tales from around the world. It is so neat to see that stories from different places in the world have similar concepts In November, we will finally arrive in the Americas where we will extend the learning to Native American legends.
October 2009
BOOoooooo
The month past by quickly. We did get a chance to write a poem for the season. Each student that handed it in on time got thier poem on display during the Conferences. I also learned that students consider a gumball a huge motivator to getting their work done and past in!
September 2009
We spent our first two weeks getting use to the
Daily 5 routine.
This process helps us all become responsible for our own behavior during reading and writing. Students are enjoying reading to themselves,
reading to someone,
listening to reading,
work on writing
and
word work.
I, the teacher, get to roam around the room and listen to different students read to me. During that time, I decide if that child needs help on
comprehension, accuracy, fluency or expanding vocabulary
