Mrs. Rankin
Grade 1 - Baldwin School
These are some important things to know about our class: The supplies we need are: #2 pencils, 16 crayons, glue sticks, a pencil box, and a backpack. Our specialists come from 10:35 - 11:25 A.M.each day. Monday and Thursday are gym days so students need to bring sneakers and socks. Tuesday is library so they need to return books in order to get different ones. Wednesday is art and you may want your children to bring a smock or a paintshirt on art day so that they are not concerned about getting messy and will enjoy the art experience more. Friday is music. "Show and Tell" is at snack time every day which is from 10:00 - 10:15A.M. Each student has "Show and Tell" only once a week. Their day is indicated on their communication folders. It is very important
that your child remember to bring a snack every day. They are always hungry at that time. It is also important for students to bring their folders to school each day because they help with communication between school and home. The last important information concerns R.A.H. If your child reads 15 minutes on Monday, put an x in the "M" box, on Tuesday, put an x in the "T" box, etc. Make sure you sign it on the line provided. I also ask that you list some, if not all, of the books that your child has read that particular week under the "Your Comments" section. You will know if I receive it on time, because I will stamp it with my "Good Reading" stamp. I have tried to make the journals as convenient for busy parents as I can. I've predated it for every week of the entire school year. The date printed in the journal is the date it should be brought to school. It's usually due on a Friday, but if it isn't,
I've indicated above the date with "Th" for Thursday. I will only accept journals on the printed date, with one exception: if your child is absent on the due date, they must bring it to school on their first day back, in order to receive a sticker on the wall chart and credit on their report card. Your children are bringing home Practice Stories that we have read in class at least twice. Please save these in a shoe box or on a shelf so they may use them to read to you for R.A.H. My students will get 40 of these little paper books of increasing difficulty before the end of the school year. They may, of course, choose any other books that they are able to read, too. I can't stress enough, how important it is for students to get the reading habit. The more they practice, the faster their reading improves.
