Develop a Routine
Consistent daily homework routines are essential for children to develop the life long skill of timely task completion.

Ideas that can help.
        -Designate a special time each day for homework.
        -Designate a special place unique for your child's success.
                *Some children need a special place to do homework where there are few distractions.
                *Other children may need to be near by adults for either assistence or support from
                  significant adults or siblings.
        -Have your child read homework instructions out loud to you when necessary.
        -Ask your child to explain the homework.
        -This may not be necesary for all children.  
        -When appropriate review the homework with your child.  
        -Do not expect your child's homework to be perfect.  Making mistakes in part of the learning
                process.
        -Encourage your child to share their work with you.  This gives you the opportunity to
                  show them that you value their efforts and are interested in their learning.
        -Sometimes your child may have homework that requires independent work.
        -Encourage your child to put completed homework in their school bag as soon as it is completed.
         -Most students have home/school folders provided by their homeroom teacher.
        

The Value of Schoolwork that Comes Home.

Reviewing completed work that comes home with your child reinforces that you value their education.
Reinforce your child's accomplishments.  Then if necessary ask them what they think they can
   do to improve their work.
Display your child's work on the refrigerator.

Concerns
If you and/ or your child's teacher are concerned about homework or classroom work habits:
        *Reinforce the use of your child's assignment notebook by asking to see it nightly .
        *Many teachers now have homework and classwork posted on their school websites.
        *Ask your child's teacher if it woul dbe beneficial to have you sign your child's assignment   
            notebook nightly.
        *Communication with school is one of the keys to success.
