SVHS Chemistry and Physics
Both Chemistry and Physics classes are college placement classes aimed at surpassing Maine Learning Results while emphasizing the importance of structured inquiry, bridging gaps between real life experiences to the mathematics of scientific law, and exploring the vice and virtue of ethical decision making in the fields of science and technology.

The laboratory experiments (typically 3 per quarter) test scientific law/theory through experimental inquiry using the scientific method.  The class will collaborate to design the laboratory experiments through structured and guided group brainstorming efforts. All lab experiments will require a standard lab report.  Lab reports will be graded on concise technical writing, content, analytical thoroughness, research citation, and format usage.

Quarterly grades composed of 20% homework spot checks and class participation, 40% exams, 40% lab reports.  Draft submittal of lab reports are accepted for the first two quarters only.

You are expected to come prepared with a scientific calculator, a 1G usb drive, and note taking supplies.

Suggested reading: Structure of the Scientific Revolutions, by Thomas Kuhn; The Dancing WuLi Masters, by Gary Zukav; A Brief History of Time, Stephen Hawking; Relativity, by Albert Einstein; or any work by Noam Chomsky (surprise me).
