Dear Parent/Guardian:

I am writing to inform you about several changes in building procedure for the upcoming 2010-2011 school year.  Sacopee Valley High School has been advised by the Oxford County Emergency Management Association, Oxford County Sheriff’s Department, and York County Sheriff’s Department to make two procedural changes in order to provide greater safety and security for our students and staff.

This year we will be locking our outside doors during the school day.  Locking down the outside doors will greatly enhance the safety of our students.  This change will be in effect at the beginning of the 2010-2011 school year. Locking the outside doors means that students will still be able to exit the building using any outside door, but the only entrance that will be available during the school day will be the main entrance located next to the office.

We will no longer accept phone call dismissals for students at the high school.  Students will be required to turn in a dismissal note to the office prior to 9:00 in the morning, or be signed out in the main office by a person listed on the student’s emergency form. Exceptions may be made with administrative or school nurse approval.

In addition to these safety changes, Sacopee Valley High School will be a “Scent-Free School” this year.  We have several students and staff members that have severe allergic reactions to any aerosol sprays, for example: deodorants, colognes, perfumes, etc.  Therefore, for the safety of these students and staff members, we will forbid any use of these items in school or on the school bus.  In accordance with scent-free protocols, all scented materials including air-fresheners, scented cleaners, and high odor markers will be removed from the school.

We are aware that any change is difficult and it will take some time for students to get used to these new procedures.  It is our hope that the inconvenience of the changes will be outweighed by the benefits of additional safety and security for our students and staff.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation.   If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 625-3208.

Respectfully,

Ryan Caron
