Attention: SVES Parents and Caregivers:

Winter is here! It is really important that children come to school with a warm coat, hat, mittens/gloves, socks, and warm shoes. In addition, when the snow comes students will need snow/ski pants and snow boots to play on the playground.  Please contact our school counselor, Mary Mayhew, if you need any assistance with winter clothing.

"Stone Soup"
Garden #2.jpgWe celebrated a bountiful harvest from our school garden with "Stone Soup".  Students from PK to grade 3 picked all kinds of vegetables from our SVES garden (tomatoes, beans, peppers, garlic, carrots, onions) from which Mr. Miller (1st grade teacher) made "Stone Soup". Our students planted seeds in late Spring/early Summer and many parent volunteers watered and weeded the garden during the summer.  A special thank you is given to Martha Stacy and Mark Miller for all their hard work and dedication to our school garden.

A special thank you to the Saco River Festival Association for sponsoring our puppet show "Everybody Loves Prirates" on Friday, Sept 16 performed by the Frogtown Mountain Puppeteers. The students and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

Update on HAWKS Helpers Coin Drive

The first week of our SVES Coin Drive has been a amazing success.  During our first week, the SVES collected approximately $253.48. To encourage this effort, the twelve third grade Hawks Helpers created posters for the school walls and decorated collection jars for each of the 16 classrooms (K-3).  The Helpers also visited each classroom to personally encourage their fellow students to contribute.

In addition, each week, the Helpers will collect the coins from each class.  The class with the highest total for the week will earn one of our Hawks for the week.

Congratuations to this week's winning class.  Mrs. Sherburne's class raised over $66.  A big thank you to Mrs. Sturgeon's class which came in second, raising over $40.

Barn Dance

All district students are invited to an evening Barn Dance at Sacopee Valley Elementary on Friday, March 25 from 6:30 and 8:00 pm.  This is a family event!  Students can only attend with an adult.

Refreshments will be available for sale!

HAWKS Helpers Spare Change Drive

Did you know that there is an estimated $10 Billion  US dollars in spare change just waiting to be put to good use in our country?

During the month of March, the SVES third grade Hawks Helpers will be leading the school in a  charity spare change drive.  During the month, the Hawks Helpers will provide each classroom from K-3rd grade with a jar where students can donate spare change.  The helpers will collect and total the change each Friday.  The class that has collected the most change each week will get to host one of the schoolís Hawk mascots in their room.  The class that raises the most money over all will win an ice cream party hosted by the Hawks Helpers.

All the money raised by the spare change drive will be donated to the three charities selected by the Hawks Helpers.  These charities are the Make A Wish Foundation, Harvest Hills Animal Shelter and Sacopee Valley Elementary Schools.

For more information, please contact Mary Mayhew, SVES Counselor.
